Five Bells Inn
Bed and breakfast in our historic village
West Chiltington is situated between Pulborough and Storrington, very near to the South Downs, great for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The village is situated about 45 miles directly south of London, close to Gatwick Airport which is only 40 minutes away. The nearest large town is Horsham and Worthing and London is 90 minutes from the village. West Chiltington's picturesque St Mary's church is filled with ancient paintings dating from the 12th, 13th and 14th century still visible on the walls inside the place of worship.
The ancient village stocks and whipping post are outside the church and are believed to have been constructed in the mid 17th century. There is a small West Chiltington museum located just behind the church. There is a smock windmill which was fully working up to the 1920's and since has been converted to a private house. Residents of West Chiltington are very proud of their gardens which are evident when roaming the country lanes and rolling meadows. Visit in the summer and you won't be disappointed. The unique aspect to this village is it’s not a drive through. It’s hidden away from the traffic where you can hear the birds singing and the occasional tractor or horse! The population of West Chiltington is below four-thousand. The original village has a number of older buildings which is considered to be the old town, with a post office.
